THE WIRE This
split CD between Bio, Cría Cuervos and The Beautiful Schizophrenic is a
mixed bag of delights that starts off promisingly before drifting off into more
familiar territory. Bio ( aka Samuel Jerónimo) from Portugal opens up with
"The Distant Image Of The Abstract Light", a totally absorbing sound
collage piece that creates a dream state brimming with chorusing frogs, eccentric
machinery and what sounds like looped gibbons. Ripe with humour and invention,
Bio's sole composition is the main reason for hunting down this collection. Cría
Cuervos and The Beautiful Schizofrenic 's contributions are equally stimulating,
but on a more familiar glitch and space drone level. Although the latter's titles,
such as "Her Heart Is A Roomful Of Drones" and "Girl In Ecstatic
Peace", are instally seductive, the end results fail to grip the imagination
with the same intensity as Bio.
